"Choose your hard" is an invitation to face the right kind of discomfort—the one that brings you closer to who you want to be, rather than further from it. We all like to be "comfortable", but being comfortable and not pushing yourself to states of uneasiness and discomfort, only leads to chronic unhealthy issues. This is a powerful mindset that reminds us: life will always involve challenges—but we get to choose which challenges are worth facing.
Here’s what it means:
Being out of shape is hard. Working out regularly is hard.
Being in debt is hard. Budgeting and saving is hard.
Being over weight is hard. Eating clean and healthy is hard.
Living without purpose is hard. Taking risks to follow your passion is also hard.
You can’t avoid hard—but you can choose the kind of hard that leads to growth, meaning, and alignment. It's about being intentional. Rather than drifting into hardship by default, you face the discomfort that leads to something better. It shifts your mindset from victim to active participant in your own life. You got this!
Action Item:
Think about one area of your life where you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or drained (e.g., health, work, relationships, boundaries, finances, purpose).
Ask yourself:
“What is hard about staying where I am?”
“What would be hard about making a change?”
Identify one intentional action you can take today to move toward the hard that grows you—not the one that keeps you stuck.
Examples:
If staying silent is hard, and speaking up is hard—schedule the conversation.
If staying unhealthy is hard, and committing to wellness is hard—plan one healthy meal or taking a walk.
If feeling unfulfilled is hard, and taking a career risk is hard—start the research.
If you really think about it, living life is really all we are about, To show up each day and choose our hard that creates our best version.
